With 144 members with about 60 active crewmen, the Sea Rats take to land and sea to teach people about real-life pirates that roamed the waves. | NEW YORK CITY, Dec. 31, 1851- Because of severe famine in Ireland, 870,000 Irish immigrants came to the United States since the mid 1840’s. Of that number, 221,253 came in 1851. They were packed into city slums and worked for very low wages. Many signs appeared in places of employment stating: “No Irish Need Apply.” Some native citizens invented stories that the Irish were hatching plots to impose the Roman Catholic religion on the United States. These Americans urged discriminations against the Irish.
This is the background, now the tale of the Mulligan Stone Quarry which operated on this property until 1964. | ||||
